Now, one thing that we all hate spending our money on is paying bills. Of course, we like the services that pile up our bills, but, we wouldn’t mind keeping the count at the bare minimum.
We spend a lot on energy. According to a 2019 post on the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the average annual electricity consumption for a residence utility in 2018 was 10,972 kWh. Multiply that by the price of a unit of electricity and it adds up to lots of money in power bills.

Turn off standby appliances
Leaking electricity, as standby power is often called, refers to the small but significant amounts of power that appliances continue to draw when they are left on standby. Even though leaving appliances on standby mode has the advantage of turning them on fast and using a remote control, the amount of power drawn by such appliances is estimated to be between 1W an hour.
Also, the older the appliance, the more it consumes while on standby. For example, between appliances that are a year old and others that are 10 years old, the second will consume 15 times more.
Switch off TVs, washing machines, microwaves, dishwashers, laptops, printers, and desktop computers when not in use.
Choose your thermostat well
Heating and cooling are high-power consumers. This implies that we should consider any small decision that can help save energy. These two options could be a priority.
Adjusting your thermostat: adjusting your thermostat downwards when you sleep or when you are away from home (between 10 and 15 degrees) will lower your cooling and heating costs by 10%. If your model allows it, program your thermostat to automatically adjust during those hours.

Use energy-efficient appliances
Energy-efficient appliances are those designed to perform their purpose while utilizing the least amount of energy. Using renewable energy is also considered an energy-efficient option.
Two classic examples of energy-efficient choices are energy-saving bulbs and solar water heaters. It is suggested that solar water heaters cut your monthly energy bills by 50-80 percent.
Other appliances that are energy-efficient options include dishwashers, refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners, dryers, and lighters among others.
The next time you shop for house appliances, check the star rating for energy efficiency. The closer they are to the 5 stars the more energy-efficient they are.

- Machine-wash clothes at lower temperatures.
